Enable multifactor authentication in LastPass to add an extra security layer that requires a second verification step before account access. This protection helps safeguard your account even if your master password is compromised.
Enabling this security feature helps protect your account from keyloggers and other threats. Even if the master password is obtained, access to the account is not possible without this second form of authentication
Restriction: If you have a LastPass Business, LastPass Business Max, or LastPass Teams account, the ability to perform these actions may be limited due to policies set by your LastPass admin.
Alternatively, you can disable multifactor authentication in your Account settings.
Are you a LastPass admin for a LastPass Teams or LastPass Business account? LastPass recommends that you complete the steps for enabling multifactor authentication in the Admin Console.
- Log in to LastPass and access your vault by doing either of the following:
- In your web browser toolbar, select and select Vault.
- Go to
https://lastpass.com/login/
and log in with your email address and master password.
- Select Account settings in the left navigation menu.
- Select the Multifactor Options tab.
- Select the Edit icon in the Action column you want to enable.
Result: A window will pop-up for your selected authenticator option.
- For the Enabled drop-down menu, select Yes.
- For the Permit Offline Access drop-down menu, choose one of the following:
- Select Allow if you want to allow access to LastPass even when you are offline. This will store an encrypted vault locally so you can log in without using multifactor authentication in case of a connectivity issue.
- Select Disallow to prevent offline access, which requires the use of multifactor authentication and to be connected to the internet when using LastPass.
Important: If you configured your multifactor authentication settings to disallow offline access and encounter an internet connectivity issue (causing your device to be offline) or https://lastpass.com is not available, you will be unable to access your LastPass vault. What to do next: After you set up your multifactor options, you can select your default authenticator, which will be presented first whenever you need to authenticate to access your LastPass vault.
