You can add an account to the LastPass Authenticator app by scanning a QR code or entering the details manually for a third-party app or website. As a result, you can use the LastPass Authenticator app for multifactor authentication when signing in.
Add a LastPass account
To add your LastPass account instead of a third-party app or website, choose from the following options:
Add an account for an app or website using a QR code
Before you begin: Install the LastPass Authenticator app on your mobile device for either iOS (iOS 16 or later) or Android (Android 12 or later).
- On your third-party app or website, navigate to the multifactor authentication settings to get a QR code.
- Select one of the following options:

- Select the provider from the list or tap Scan QR code.
- Using your mobile device's camera, scan the QR code displayed in your computer's web browser to pair your new mobile device.

Troubleshooting: If you encountered the message "Account not added" or "Device not paired", tap Report a problem to send feedback about the QR code that could not be scanned. Results: You have added a new account using a QR code for a third-party app or website, and you will be prompted to authenticate using the LastPass Authenticator app the next time you sign in.
Add an account manually
Before you begin: Install the LastPass Authenticator app on your mobile device for either iOS (iOS 16 or later) or Android (Android 12 or later).
- On your third-party app or website, navigate to the multifactor authentication settings to get a secret key for manual entry.
- Open the LastPass Authenticator app.
- On your mobile device:
- iOS
Tap the PLUS icon in the upper-right corner. - Android
Tap the PLUS icon in the bottom-right corner.
- Tap Add manually.
- Enter the following information:
Entry field | Description |

Issuer | This field is optional. The name of the account you want to protect. For example, LastPass. |
Account name | The username for the account you want to protect. For example, user@email.com. |
Secret key | The secret key is shared between the client and the server. The secret key is provided in the third-party's multifactor account settings. |
Group | Choose a group to add your account. |
- Optional: Enable Change standard settings.
Important: LastPass does not recommend changing the default settings.
Entry field | Description |

Refresh time (sec) | The minimum value is 5 seconds. The default value is set to 30 seconds: your TOTP will refresh every 30 seconds. |
Digits | The length of the TOTP in digits. The accepted values are between 6 and 9. |
Algorithm | This value can either be SHA1, SHA256 or SHA512. SHA1 uses a 160 bit long key to encrypt data while SHA256 & SHA512 uses 256/512 bit long keys to encrypt data. |
- Tap Save.
Results: You have added a new account manually for a third-party app or website, and you will be prompted to authenticate using the LastPass Authenticator app the next time you sign in.
