Depending on your security settings, LastPass may occasionally send you security notifications to your LastPass account email address that require your response. You can further improve your account's security by adding a security email address to which security notifications can be sent, in case your account email address becomes compromised.
Important: The security email address is where emails will be sent (instead of your account email address) if you are trying to access LastPass from a new device, location, or IP address, or if you are sending yourself a master password hint during the account recovery process.
Warning: If you have a LastPass Business account, updating your email address may invalidate your existing sign-in configurations. Before proceeding, contact your LastPass admin.
- Log in to LastPass and access your vault by doing either of the following:
- In your web browser toolbar, select and select Vault.
- Go to
https://lastpass.com/login/
and log in with your email address and master password.
- Select Account settings in the left navigation menu.
- On the General tab, select Show Advanced Settings.
- In the Security section, enter an email address into the Security Email field. This is where your security emails will be sent. The email address should be different from the one you use to log in to your account.
Important: The security email address is where emails will be sent (instead of your account email address) if you are trying to access LastPass from a new device, location, or IP address, or if you are sending yourself a master password hint during the account recovery process.
Result: A "Verify Email" prompt is displayed in your vault, and you are sent a verification email to your new email address (also specified in the prompt).
Troubleshooting: If you don't receive a verification email from LastPass:
- Follow these instructions to confirm you can receive emails from LastPass.
- Return to your Account settings and update the email address again.
- Proceed with the steps below.
Verify access to your new email address
- Check the inbox of your new email address for a Verify your LastPass email address message, and copy the code within the email.
- Return to your LastPass vault and paste the code into the Verify Email prompt, then select Confirm.
- Enter your master password, then select Continue.
Result: Your LastPass vault is re-encrypted to save the changes for your updated email address.
Results: You have updated your security email address for your LastPass account.
