Text/SMS verification for account recovery
LastPass offers an optional account recovery feature using Text/SMS verification code. For information on how to set it up, view Set up Text/SMS verification for account recovery.
Restriction: Receiving SMS messages from LastPass is not available in some countries due to local regulations.
Recovery Phone
Enter the phone number you want to set to be used in the Text/SMS verification for account recovery process if you ever forget your master password.
Attention: The phone number used for Text/SMS verification for account recovery is separate from the phone number used for multifactor authentication through the LastPass Authenticator app. The phone number set for multifactor authentication is set during Step #3: Set up a backup authentication method for the LastPass Authenticator app, and is used for sending security codes through text message (SMS passcode) or receiving a phone call (Call Me feature) as your backup authentication method.
Select Show Advanced Settings at the bottom of the screen to continue with configuring the options below.
Alerts
Password Alerts
When enabled, LastPass will alert you when you are logging into a website where you have a weak or duplicate password. For more information, see Manage password alerts.
Re-prompt for Master Password
Choose which actions will be protected by your master password. For more information, see Require a master password re-prompt.
Security
Security Email
As an additional layer of security, add another email address separate from the one you use on a regular basis to receive important LastPass security emails that require actions. This email address would be used to receive the following:
- LastPass multifactor authentication disable email
- Password hint email
- Account recovery email
- Verification email for history removal
- Verification email for master password change reversion
- Denylisted IP notifications
These messages are also sent to your primary email. For more information, see Manage your security email address.
Country Restriction
Allows you to restrict login to IP addresses originating from countries that you select. For more information, see Restrict LastPass access to specific countries.
Tor Networks
Blocks any logins that originate from Tor (virtual tunnel network). For more information, see Manage the allowance of Tor networks.
Revert Master Password
Allows you to revert master password changes should you forget your master password. Enabled by default. For more information, see Recover your account.
Disable Email Verification
Skip email verification of unknown devices and locations.
Disable Multifactor Trust Expiration
Skip the 30-day expiration for trusted clients.
Auto-Logoff Other Devices
If enabled, you can only be logged in to one instance of LastPass at a time, meaning that if you log in to LastPass on one device, it will log you out on the device used previously.
Password Iterations
Controls how many times your credentials are hashed using PBKDF2 before being sent to LastPass servers. For more information, see About password iterations.
Auto-logoff
Controls how long you can stay logged in to your vault (through the lastpass.com website) before an automatic log off.
Note: Your log in session can be destroyed earlier than this because of your LastPass browser extension logout preferences. For more information, see Global security options in Account Settings.
Tip: You can also manage the automatic logout settings for the LastPass browser extension in your browser extension preferences.
Bookmarklet Auto-Logoff
Similar to the Auto-logoff option in that it controls how long your session exists on the server, except it only applies to bookmarklets. For more information, see Global security options in Account Settings.
Privacy
Track History
Maintain a history of your website logins and form fills. When disabled, History and Recents will be empty on the vault and LastPass browser extension, respectively. By default, history tracking is enabled for all LastPass accounts (in privacy settings) when they are created.
Restriction: If you have a LastPass Business, LastPass Business Max, or LastPass Teams account, the ability to perform these actions may be limited due to policies set by your LastPass admin.
