Add a passkey

Use this method to add a new passkey to your LastPass vault.

Restriction: If you're a LastPass Business or LastPass Teams user, your account might have the "Allow passkeys" policy disabled that prevents saving passkeys to your vault.

Important: Before adding passkeys, make sure that all of your LastPass applications meet the minimum system requirements (that is, browser extension, mobile apps). For more information, see System requirements for passkeys

Limitations and compatibility

Only one passkey can be added for a website or app on one device for one account.

Note: If you have stored a passkey in a different service, you need to disable it before adding a passkey to LastPass.

You cannot log in to your LastPass account using a passkey.
Passkeys are not supported in vault identities.

Select the inactive (gray or black) icon in your web browser toolbar.
Enter your email address and master password, then select Log In.
Result: An active icon is displayed, and you are now logged in.
In your web browser, navigate to your site.
Register to the site using a passkey or add a passkey to your site after logging in.
When prompted by LastPass, select Add passkey to add a passkey entry to your LastPass vault.
If you enabled user verification, and the site requires it, enter your master password to continue.

Results: Your passkey has now been added to your vault.

Troubleshooting

If you cannot add a passkey to LastPass, try to refresh your site first. If you still cannot add a passkey, check the following scenarios:

Existing passkey

You already have a passkey in LastPass for this account.

Site is not supported

For some sites, passkeys cannot be saved to LastPass.

Tip: LastPass supports FIDO-approved implementations of the passkey standard. You can view a list of websites that support passkeys at https://fidoalliance.org/passkeys-directory/ .

Technical limitations

Passkey technology is evolving.
