Import passwords and notes from any password manager into LastPass by exporting your data as a generic CSV file. The CSV file must follow specific formatting requirements and can include passwords, notes, URLs, usernames, and organizational folder assignments.
Restriction: Custom item types and custom fields are not supported during import or export.

CSV file requirements
- Your CSV file column headers must match the format used in our password and note templates.
- Note imports are limited to 45,000 characters.
Tip: If you're using a Mac, follow these steps to avoid formatting issues:
- Edit your file using the TextEdit app or another text editor, as Microsoft Excel can cause reformatting problems.
- Save your file with the .csv extension instead of the default .numbers extension.
CSV file content for passwords and notes
You can import passwords and notes using a single CSV file or separate CSV files. Your file should include the following columns in the order listed:
Important: To import using your own CSV file, you must use lowercase text for all column headers.

Restriction: Importing directly into a shared folder is not supported. All items will be imported as items within standard folders.
Note: Password items imported without URLs remain password items. The following rules apply when other item fields are blank:

Import items using a generic CSV file
Notice: While you can import and store an unlimited capacity of items in your LastPass vault, you may encounter an import issue or failure to import if you are importing 200 or more items at once.
- Log in to LastPass and access the Import your passwords to LastPass page using one of these methods:
LastPass browser extension
- In your web browser toolbar, select the active LastPass icon and select Vault.
- Select Advanced Options > Import in the left navigation menu.
Result: The Step 1/3. Where are your passwords now? page appears.
- Select Other.
- On the Step 2/3. Export & upload page, under Upload the exported file to LastPass, choose one of the following options:
- Drag and drop your CSV file containing the passwords and notes.
- Select browse your computer, locate the CSV file on your computer, select it, and then select Open.
- Select Review and import.
Result: A list of the items found in the exported file appears.
Troubleshooting: If incomplete items are detected (for example, items missing a username, password, or URL), the following message appears:
Incomplete items detected. To make them ready for login, add missing info either now or after import. Have a look
Select Have a look. In the Incomplete section, select next to the affected item in the Data Status column, then enter the missing information in the Edit password window and select Save changes.
- On the Step 3/3. Review & import page, all items are selected for import by default. If needed, make any of the following changes:
- Deselect items you don't want to import.
- If you want to create duplicate items (by importing items with the same username, password, and URL that already exist in your vault), enable the Select all duplicates option at the bottom of the list.
- Select Import All.
Results: Your data has been imported into your LastPass vault.
LastPass website
- Go to
https://lastpass.com/?ac=1
and enter your email address and master password, then select Log In.
Troubleshooting: If you are a federated login user, you must log in through the LastPass browser extension.
- Select Advanced Options > Import in the left navigation menu.
