If you previously set up a master password hint/reminder, you can have LastPass send you a clue in a reminder email.
Note: You can set up a master password hint/reminder when you first create your LastPass account or when you manually change your master password in Account settings.
Recover your account
Send yourself a hint in a reminder email to help you remember your master password.
1.Navigate to the LastPass Account Recovery page at
https://lastpass.com/account-recovery/
.
2. Enter your email address, complete the captcha challenge, then select Send verification code.
Result: A verification code is sent to either your email address or mobile device:
- If you did not set up Text/SMS verification for account recovery and did not set up a security email, then LastPass sent the 6-digit verification code to your account email address (that you used to log in to LastPass).
- If you did not set up Text/SMS verification for account recovery but did enable a security email, then LastPass sent the 6-digit verification code to that email address.
- If you previously set up Text/SMS verification for account recovery, then LastPass sends the 6-digit verification code to your mobile device.
Troubleshooting: If you don't receive the SMS message on your Android phone, update or re-install the messaging app on your phone.
3. Enter the 6-digit verification code and submit it.
Result: LastPass checks whether automatic recovery is available for this device and browser combination.
- If you have logged into this device and browser combination previously, automatic recovery was successful available and LastPass completes the verification. If you enabled multifactor authentication for your account, you will be prompted for MFA. Otherwise, you can now proceed and change your master password.
- If automatic recovery was not available, the Recover your account page is displayed.
4. On the Recover your account page, select Send hint under "Review master password hint" to send an email to your inbox containing the words you set up as a clue to remind you of your master password.
5. If your hint helps you remember, select Log in to try logging in to LastPass once again.
Troubleshooting: If you are still unable to log in to LastPass and need to reset your master password, return to the LastPass Account Recovery page at
https://lastpass.com/account-recovery/
. Follow the instructions in Recover your account.
Remember: Make sure you are attempting to reset your master password using a device and browser where you logged in previously.
Results: You have successfully sent yourself a master password hint for account recovery.
