Once account recovery has been set up on your mobile device, you can reset your master password using Face ID or Touch ID in the LastPass Password Manager app on iOS to restore access to your vault.
Before you begin: Make sure you have already set up account recovery in the LastPass Password Manager app before proceeding.
- Open the LastPass Password Manager app, then tap Forgot master password? on the login screen.
- Enter your email address.
- Tap Recover Account.
Important: If you haven't set up account recovery using Face ID or Touch ID, tap Verify your identity and you'll be redirected to the web account recovery flow. For more information, see Recover your account.

- Tap Recover with Face ID.
- Glance at your device while holding in portrait orientation.
- If prompted, complete steps for multifactor authentication (if it is enabled on your account).
- Tap Next.
- When prompted, enter a new master password, then confirm it.
Tip: LastPass recommends using the following best practices when creating your master password:
- Use a minimum of 12 characters, but the lengthier the better
- Use at least one of each of upper case letters, lower case letters, numerals, and special characters
- Make it memorable, but not easily guessed (for example, a passphrase)
- Make sure that it is unique only to you
- Don't use your email address as your master password
- Don't use personal information
- Don't use sequential characters (for example, "1234") or repeated characters (for example, "aaaa")
- Set a password with a maximum strength (ZXCVBN strength result is 100%)
Tip: Learn more about how the strength is calculated for your master password and individual site passwords in your vault.
- Make sure you don't use your master password for any other account or application
- Don't reuse old passwords
- To maximize your security, use a randomly generated master password
Tip: To generate a random password, use the LastPass Password Generator.
f. Set a master password hint.
g. Tap Set master password.
h. Once logged out, tap Log in.
i. Enter your email address and newly created master password, then tap Log in.
Results: You have successfully reset your master password using biometrics in the LastPass Password Manager app for iOS.
