I’m using LastPass as an individual and my vault is starting to get cluttered. Are there best practices for organizing passwords, notes, and payment info? Should I rely on folders, shared folders, or something else to keep things manageable?
The items in your vault are organized by folders with your Favorites and accepted shared items (if applicable) displayed at the top for easy access.
As you type in the Search field, LastPass searches and filters your passwords, notes, and items in the main vault window.
To browse and organize how your folders and vault items are displayed, use the following navigation tools:
LastPass sorting functionality is sorely lacking. Choosing Folder (a-z) sorts the folders, but NOT the items in them (e.g. Favorites shows at the top, but the items in Favorites are not sorted - at least that's how my LastPass is behaving). My items in all other folders DO appear to be sorted properly, but not in my Favorites folder. Choosing Name (a-z) sorts the items and totally disregards folders.
This reality is a bad mark on LastPass. No software provider should be so limiting with their sort functionality. They should provide MAXIMUM capabilities so that the end user can do what they want how they want. That's not to even mention the lacking sorting within the browser extension itself.
The developers of Lastpass have failed to remedy this for MANY YEARS and seem uninterested in making improvements along this line. Their answer is most often to "SEARCH", which requires inefficient typing, whenever sorting my Favorites would be much more efficient for how I use LastPass.
Hi @John Neighbors,
I’m sorry to hear about your experience. Based on my own experience, when you select “Folder (A–Z)”, LastPass should sort both your folders alphabetically and the items within each folder. This also includes your Favorites, which should appear at the top.
If you’re not seeing this, I recommend trying the following troubleshooting steps for your browser extension:
