It looks like mobile logins were happening. I don't know why or how. My mobile doesn't even have Lastpass installed. Any way to get back the lost device switches? I don't plan to use them, but if something like this were to happen again, I'm worried I'd simply be logged out.
Also, if my main laptop were to fail for some reason, I'd need to be able to switch to my backup laptop.

Switching between devices is no problem --- only between device types. Free LastPass subscribers are restricted to either Mobile or Desktop, and can use as many devices as needed, i.e. you could utilize LastPass across any desktop device you trust.
