Safari Extension is blank/empty but MacOS Lastpass app vault works fine. (MacOS Sonoma 14.0)

MacBook Pro 2019 running Sonoma.

The Safari extension is logging in ok (App Store version, 4.18) but appears to have lost its way to the actual vault and just shows blank/empty. If I try to add a password via a website using the extension it tries for a few seconds then gives up with a "LastPass couldn't save your password Try Again" error. The MacOS LastPass app is fine and shows the correct content.

It also works ok using the MS Edge extension on the same MBP andI can use the LastPass app vault to copy/paste passwords but it's not working with the extension (so loses the functionality completely)

I've removed LastPass and the extension, reinstalled but I get the same issue. Tried resetting my master pwd also no joy. Reset safari using various methods and upgraded from Ventura to Sonoma. Nothing doing.

I recently upgraded to Sonoma, but this was not working in Ventura also. Appears to be around the time the app went exclusively to the App Store version. I'd like to be able to try 4.16 on this MacBook

I have another MBP running Sonoma which uses LP 4.16 version at the moment which works fine.I'd like to be able to try 4.16 on this MacBook but can't see where I can download this now. Also works fine on my iOS devices.

Progress! LastPass support asked me to turn off Private Relay in my iCloud settings. After doing that, and then restarting safari and signing back into the LastPass Mac app, it's working! I've done a few restarts, and so far it's worked consistently.

Fingers crossed that was the issue.

Having the exact same issue. I have two different macos devices running LP 4.118.0. One of them upgraded from the Sonoma Beta to the GA release where its working fine and one upgraded from Ventura to Senoma which was working and then today stopped working. Works fine on Edge on the same machine.

I have had the same problem. After updating to MacOS Sonoma the Vault LP app and chrome extension is working fine, but the extension in Safari is not. In Safari, after updating to Sonoma, when I clicked on it the extension it is blank (ie. a small empty box appeared below the extension button. It kind of looked like an empty speech bubble from a comic strip). Then, about a week later, the extension started to appear as it should when it is clicked on in Safari, but it said my vault was empty and had no passwords. I decided to re-install the LastPass app but now the extension has gone back to the original bad behavior of appearing as an empty comic strip speech bubble when I click on it. Just to reiterate, the LastPass Vault application has worked fine this whole time, but I miss the extension automatically filling in passwords and generating new passwords.

I noticed that the LastPass app has not been updated since before the release of MacOS Sonoma so I am guessing it is a major compatibility issue with the new version of Safari. LastPass, either figure out a solution that we, the users, can perform and communicate it to us or fix this with an update ASAP.

Information about my setup:

MacOS Sonoma 14.0 on M1 chip

I also have the same issue immediately after upgrading to macOS Sonoma 14.0. My Safari was already at version 17 prior to the OS upgrade. I also installed the mac app from the App Store only less than two weeks ago, and that worked fine with macOS Ventura 13.x and Safari 17.

The vault in the mac app and the extension in Firefox behave fine. Similar to the original post, I have also tried various combinations of restarting the browser and the computer, uninstalling (with removal of all related files hidden in the Library folders), clearing local cache, re-logging in, etc.

Here are the relevant specs:

Several app updates, currently on 4.123 (860) and this is still not working.

Tried multiple ways to remove and eradicate Lastpass using app cleaners etc & reinstall from scratch, but I get the same result of empty vault for the safari extension only

I've got the exact same issue too! I've tried opening support cases, but very frustratingly haven't managed to get anywhere.

Mine finally started to work again after updating LastPass a couple days ago. I also updated to Mac OS Sonoma 14.2. But I think the LastPass update is what fixed it for me

Correction about my last post. Mine only sometimes works. Usually the extension does not work on the most up-to-date Mac version (Sonoma 14.2.1) on Safari. It is very frustrating. I'll reboot Safari and then it will work for a bit and then the next day it stops working. Once it stops working, one of two things will happen when I click on the extension in Safari:

1. The extension view will look normal but not have any of my password data.

2. The extension view will be a small rounded box with no content inside of it.

I haven't had it in a working state for several weeks now, over several reboots, safari restarts and Mac app log-in-log-outs.

I've seen both outcomes described above, plus one more (which is most common for me) which is that the extension opens and all I see is a LastPass safe icon with a spinning handle.

I've still got an active support ticket, through which I' sharing logs and videos, so fingers crossed some progress is made.

Awesome. This also worked for me. Turned off private relay and it started working immediately, no need to log out etc.

This is very disappointing news that the LastPass Safari Extension and Apple Private Relay are mutually incompatible. I certainly don't want to sacrifice Apple's cutting-edge privacy features for a password manager, so it may be time to start looking for other password management solutions. Rumor has it that LastPass is also completely unable to support Macs with Apple Silicon, anyway.

After testing the "turn Private Relay off" recommendation and finding that it works for Safari, I went back and turned Private Relay back on. I then tried Safari LP after shutting it down and restarting it, and it works consistently.

LP, can you please explain what is happening?

Also, I tried the suggested "fix" and it works. That said, I don't recommend keeping it in place until LastPass address this issue for Safari. The fact that they don't have the same issue on Chrome on the same machine gives me concern.

I agree, PhantomSoul. The really weird thing is that the LastPass Chrome extension on the same system works just fine. I can have both browsers up next to each other and attempt to login to a site and Chrome's LP works fine (recognizes site and does autofill), while the Safari LP comes up blank. Unacceptable for a subscription security service to be that inconsistent on the same platform. Theres is no reason that we should be disabling security features like private relay in order to support a security feature like LastPass.
