Email tied to an account I didn't set up - can't log in.

Hi All,

I started with a company and they have been sharing passwords to my work email address before I created an account with Last Pass. When I tried to create an account with my work email address, it won't let me because it says the email address is already in use. I don't know the password because I didn't set up an account and when I go through the password recovery it keeps failing. How can there be an account with my work email address already set up? (Company says they didn't set one up for me.) How can I access that account?

An account may have been created with your company email address if they were ingesting user accounts (emails) from your local IdP (Active Directory, Okta, etc). If they have them to auto-create an account for a user in the company, then they may not be aware. There are steps to reclaim the account, and then associate it as a user-created company email to a company-controlled company email LastPass Vault account (we had to do this for a user who had their own Vault with company email and needed to move under the Corporate control of that Vault).

We were told to start here:https://lastpass.com/recover.phpand see if they can receive the email to get access to that company email address LP Vault (but not corporate controlled).

If that doesn't work, we were given these instructions (working process as of 1/2022) in order to remove a corporate email address account that's "Personal" to a "Company" owned one:

"1. Go here: https://lastpass.com/delete_account.php

2. Select Delete.

3. When asked if you know your master password, choose No.

4. Enter your email address and click Send Email.

5. Follow the new link sent to your email and follow the prompts."

Lastpass don't save your password on their server that is why it might be difficult to retrieve that account or change the email. They only help you with a hint password and that's all. I have an email tired to my lastpass account I couldn't figure out how it gotten there I tried everything till date am unable to gain access to it. So I give up and opened another and that's what am using right now.

I don't know the exact process, but there should be a email somewhere inviting you to create an account with a temporary password. If you can't easily find the email, I would just delete the existing account as if you didn't know the password, sign up, and have your colleagues share the passwords again after you get everything set up.
