LastPass Chrome extension causes Gmail message action toolbar to flicker endlessly

In Gmail (mail.google.com), hovering over the per-message action toolbar causes an endless rapid show/hide loop. The issue reproduces with LastPass as the only enabled Chrome extension. It disappears when LastPass is disabled and does not occur in Chrome Incognito or Microsoft Edge.

Disabling LastPass for mail.google.com in the LastPass URL Exceptions list did not help.

How can I fix this?

• Clear cookies and cache from your browser 
• Remove the extension
• Re-start the browser
• Download the extension for the browser by going to the website  https://lastpass.com/misc_download2.php .
• Log in again through the extension 
• Run a test
