Trusted Device Issue - asked to verify my identity

Hi,

I have the free version of LastPass and have used it with my desktop for a number of years. Within the last 3 months I am almost always asked to verify my location and device when I attempt to sign in. Once I do that via the email sent to me, everything is fine. But I don't want to go through this every time and my location certainly does not change.

I looked through the help topics, specifically about creating a trusted device, but that feature does not apply to desktops. Can anyone suggest a fix for this situation?

This will happen if your IP address changes, and after reviewing your account you have had 5 separate IPs in the last 2 days. In my experience ISPs do not typically change a customer's IP address that often unless you are using some kind of hotspot connection. What you can do is open your Vault > Account Settings > Advanced and disable email verification, but you should replace it with multi factor authentication for a 2nd layer of security.

I don't have a hotspot connection and your observation confirms an issue I am having with TMobile internet. I don't understand they don't keep my IP address static, but who knows?

I will take your suggestion about two-factor authentication.

I'm having a very similar issue.

The first is that I've not been able to add my device as a trusted device. Then I have to keep logging into LastPass every day, which is completely exhausting.

I'm unsure about IP change in my case. If you don't mind telling me how I can check about my IP address being changed.

Again how does the two-factor authentication work?

I'd just love a means of logging in without going through the daily stress of inputting login details and going to my email to verify my account.

Hi @ama_nnaanna,

Searching "what is my IP" in a search engine andshould show you your current IP, you could do this to monitor how often your IP address changes. Your ISP may change your IP (they would be able to provide more details), or if you use a VPN this could require you to verify your LastPass login often as well.

Please note that adding a device as a trusted deviceensures that you will not be prompted for Multifactor Authentication the next time you log in, it will not bypass the need to verify your login via email if you are logging in from a new IP/location or untrusted device. These steps must be completed on every device that you want to mark as trusted.

Hi @ChentongTian,

While LastPass is not able to make any changes to your account on your behalf, you can disable these verification emails if you'd prefer, but we would recommend enabling MFA for your LastPass account if you do this as an added layer of security. You can turn these emails off by opening your Vault, then clicking Account Settings > Show Advanced Settings > scroll down to the Security section, disable the "Don't require email verification from unknown devices and locations." option, click Update.
