newbie: using LastPass to log in various sites with multiple usernames in multiple devices

Hi,

For work and for personal use I use more than one computer and multiple mobile devices, which means I will probably get LastPass Premium. However, I have a question about logging into the same site with different usernames: how does this work with LastPass Premium?

In practice... let's say I have Laptop A and Laptop B. Also, let's say I have cellphone X and cellphone Y. Finally, let's say that for a website (e.g.www.whateverwebsite.com) I have username1 (with one email) and username2 (with a different email).

So, my questions:

1)Will I be able to log in and out of that website, easily switching from username1 and username2, in any of my devices and any of my computers?

2) If I change the password for username1, in any of my devices, will this change be synchronized across all of my devices, with the new password in it?

3)If I create a profile in a new website, will this new profile be syncronized automatically across all of my devices (and visible in any of them)?

4) If I have MFA enabled, can I configure it so that cellphone X's number is "associated" to username1, and that cellphone Y's number is "associated" to username2?

And a couple of additional ones:

5) Can I have MFA enabled only for some websites/usernames (e.g. only bank and email), or is it an "all or nothing" functionality?

6) Can I configure LastPass Premium to save my login credentials only for specific websites, but not do so for others (for example, temporary accounts I may create in websites I know I will be visiting only once)?

Short answer: Last Pass can handle all of the situations you are asking about (except you may be confused about how MFA works with LastPass).

More details:

Q1: If you have multiple credentials for a site, LastPass will present a drop-down menu to allow you to select which login you want to use. This will work on all of your devices.

Q2 & 3:. Vault changes are updated on all of your devices almost immediately (in most cases).

Q4&5: MFA with lastpass is only used to log into your LastPass account to access your vault. LastPass's MFA options have nothing to do with the MFA that you have set up with a particular website.

(That being said, there is another app called "LastPass Authenticator" that can provide the second factor codes for your websites and your LastPass account as well).

Q6: Yes, you can specify a list of websites for which Lastpass won't prompt to save your login credentials.

Wow! Thanks for your prompt reply, and I am happy to hear almost all of the questions I had are covered with LastPass.

About MFA you are totally right, I am indeed not familiar with how MFA works with LastPass, but let me rephrase my question considering your answer about this particular topic (which is very informative as well).

In my case, I have 2 different cellphones with 2 different numbers in them. I see that LastPass' MFA can work via SMS or via a verification code (with the LastPass Authenticator app you mention).

So my MFA's questions are:

a) I assume that the SMS method can only send that SMS to one phone, but not to both of them... or can it? This last option would be the ideal.

b) If I have installed the LastPass Authenticator app in both phones, and I am logged into that app (I assume I need to be "logged in" to use Authenticator, I couldn't find information about it), will the App work on both phones simultaneously?

Thanks for your reply! So, assuming you are right (since nobody has corrected you), the 2 phones + LastPass Authenticator option would not work.

However, you touch an interesting idea: using more than one MFA. In that case, do you know if I could use LastPass Authenticator in cellphone 1, and (for example) Google Authenticator in cellphone 2?

I believe the workflow to enroll the LastPass Authenticator to your account works for a single device only (someone please correct me if I'm wrong about this).

You CAN, however, have MULTIPLE MFA options configured, such as Grid, Google Authenticator, etc.

In this case, you can choose which MFA factor you want to use to complete the login to LastPass.

What's nice about using LastPass Authenticator for MFA is that it will send a push notification to the device as the MFA. Simply approve the push notification that automatically appears on your phone, and you are in. You don't have to mess around with entering the 6-digit code from the app or SMS message etc. Note that the ability to enter the 6-digit code is still available should there be a problem receiving the push notification.

Also, LastPass Authenticator has recently created a way to set up a "Password less" login experience, where you almost never have to provide your LastPass password to log in. However, to do that you can't have any other MFA methods enabled except the LastPass Authenticator.

Yes, each MFA option could be linked to a different device. This gives you some redundancy should your phone fall into the ocean, then you could still use a different MFA option to access your account.
