How to view password history in LastPass?

It would be useful if LastPass had a password history feature.

So, for example, if you browse to a website and update your password but for some reason the password change on the website fails but you have already clicked update in LastPass then the password has gone, and you are potentially faced with a password recovery.

If LastPass kept the last 5 or 10 passwords that you could browse that would be extremely useful.

Hello,

There is a history for both generated passwords as well as history for Vault item entries.

To view the history for an item in your vault:

Locate your desired site entry in your Vault, then click Edit icon.
Click the History icon (a round arrow with a clock inside) next to the field name for Username, Site password, or Notes.
Next to the date, click the Show Text icon (eye icon) to display the stored data.
For multiple history entries, you can clickHide AllorShow All

This would be a useful feature. Require you master password to be entered to view the last generated list. Let’s face it, LastPass misses passwords. It happens to me enough that whenever I generate a password I have to copy it and paste it in my Sticky Notes program to temporarily save it until I see whether LastPass actually saves or updates the password. Even though I delete the note as soon as I successfully see the password in LastPass having to do this is a security risk. Keep the last 10 generated passwords!

It would be really useful if there was a way that you could include an easier way to access your password history without having to use Edit and then copy-paste. A real killer-feature would be if you could right-click your password icon and then cycle through the previous passwords. For example if your latest password was "apple" and you try that and find your target system was created six months ago and needs the previous password "orange", or even-older "pear", you could cycle through and select them without having to use edit and copy-paste.

It would be even better if the history showed the date it password change took place.

There is a password history that you can view in LastPass, to view this history please follow the steps as outlined above and you can view the history of when the password was changed/edited/updated in your LastPass Vault. Please note this won't show the history of when your password was changed for the actual account, only when the item wasedited/updated in your LastPass Vault, as accessing this kind of account information would not be possible as website/account providers generally keep this information private as a security measure.

Hi Rachael,

I am aware of the history function but would find it really useful if you could suggest to the developers that they include functionality to be able to cycle through previous versions as described in my earlier message.

We are using passwords for a group of factory built VM so for instance all user VM's auto-created in April have password apple, all in May have orange etc. This means we can look at the change dates and try various iterations of the passwords. At the moment we have the URL as localhost as we wat to just copy the password to our SSH client and not open a webpage meaning we have to use edit everytime, and this is very cumbersome.

I came here to request the ability to see the history of passwords for an account in the Vault, for the exact reason others have posed. Was happy to find that feature is there.

But... perhaps the UI to that feature could be made a little more obvious? 5 years of using LastPass and looking at that screen hundreds of times, and I had no idea of the history icon?

Why does this not work in the mobile app? Now that LastPass limits your use to mobile or web, I can't swap to the web version to perform this. It is not available unless it's buried somewhere different. Please assist
