LastPass extension breaks Yubikey MFA

This is happening for AWS sign on.

I've pinpointed the LastPass extension as the culprit here, with a clean browser (cache cleared) the problem still occurs; when I disable the extension, there is no problem.

Running in Firefox (Version 143.0.1) browser, using the LastPass extension, when I get to the MFA authentication page (i.e. "Touch your Yubikey") I see an error that the authentication process was cancelled without touching anything. I can see in the debug console an abort error (screenshot included).

This started happening a few months ago, and happens every time. It's frustrating me to the point where I'm considering alternatives to LastPass. Please fix this interaction!

To resolve this issue please do the following:

log out of the LastPass extension (red square on the top right hand side of your screen)
remove the LastPass extension (right click your mouse, select remove)
clear your cache and cookies from your browser for the last 7 days (settings, privacy and security)
add the LastPass extension (download it at lastpass.com/download)
log in and test it out
if the issue persists, let me know and I will follow up with you

This issue is still persisting for me...

I did all of the steps, removing cache and cookies forever (it's not possible to select only 7 days).

Installed lastpass fresh.

And it's still breaking yubikey authentication into Google, Cloudflare, Paypal, Nextcloud, etc, etc, etc.

And because you got me to delete my cache and cookies, I now need to log back into everything with a broken authentication method.

You guys really need to fix this.

Since the problem began, have you tried deactivating the Yubikey integration, in order to re-sync again with LastPass?

I see this problem too. I'm using Firefox 144.0.2 on Linux. My Yubikey doesn't work on any site when the LastPass extension is enabled. As soon as I disable it, the Yubikey works fine. It looks like LastPass is somehow canceling out the browser's attempt to communicate with the Yubikey. Please fix!

I am also having issues with Yubikey that I have not had before. We have SSO for the corporation and when I connect to my VPN I'm prompted with a screen to either auth with the yubikey or password.

When I go into the hardware login with the yubikey it seems like last pass is maybe populating something for me, because it goes straight into something like "authentication failed".

The worst part of this is it locks up my firefox completely when it does this. Dead, needs to be shut down. Took me awhile to realize that I have to disable lastpass before I login to the VPN.

I believe I'm having this problem too. I tried to add my yubikey as a second factor to another website, which should not involve lastpass at all, but when I try to add it a lastpass window opens up and says this:

Existing passkey.If you already have a passkey in LastPass for this site, either use it or delete and add again.

I have exactly the same on Firefox when lastpass extension is enabled. On every website where I use my yubi as 2FA. I need to disable extension, reload page and then I can login through my yubi. It's really annoying. Extension version: 4.147.2. The same behavior on macos as on ubuntu.

I am also experiencing this. Also Firefox+Yubikey+Lastpass, and disabling (or logging out) lastpass fixes the yubikey login. Okta is an example website that reproduces this.

This is specifically an issue with using Yubikeys on Linux with LastPass installed as a Firefox extension. The issue doesn't occur with Chrome browsers or if you're on Windows it seems. They need to confirm it's an issue and then work to resolve it. I can confirm that ProtonPass does not have this issue, so it's not security keys as implemented in browsers but specifically an issue in the LastPass extension itself.

The issue is related to an ongoing situation that has been reported, and we are trying to get it done ASAP, at the moment there is no ETA, but we can assure you we are working on it to get it done.

When passkey is saved in LastPass, LP extension on Firefox does not allow users to authenticate with Yubikey on some websites.

Once we have a solution, we will send an update to get this resolved, in the meantime I will recommend you contact support and create a case so we can add your case to the incident.

I can confirm that the issue exists also on Windows 11, presently Firefox 145.0.1 and the latest LastPass extension. Tested on several computers. The error is "There was a problem communicating with your device. (AbortError)" directly after the initial login with password, even before the Yubikey is plugged in.

I'm having the same problem, on only Firefox. I've been extremely frustrated with this problem the last few months and only recently ran a test on Windows and realized it was also happening there (I thought it was somehow tied to my Ubuntu machine). I've tested it works in Chrome on both operating systems. I'm so grateful this issue helped me pinpoint LastPass as the source of the problem! It's apparently finally starting to show up at the top of web search results.

A far from ideal workaround that seems to have resolved the issue for me:

about:addons -> LastPass -> Manage
- Change "Allow automatic updates" to "Off"

I'm also having this error with firefox and lastpass extension. Downgrading to lastpass 4.145.0 (as previous commenter mentioned and provided link for) seems to improve it.

actually my last comment wasn't strongly positive enough. downgrading to 4.145.0 and restarting firefox completely fixed yubikeys in firefox, full stop.

Where can I find the Mac/firefox installer for V4.145.0? I have been struggling with the same issue with both YubiKey and Fingerprint authentication using firefox and passkey on mac. My primary use-case is google drive sign in. But its equally frustrating on other less often accessed sites.

The extension updated to 4.150 and everything was working. Then I tried to add a passkey for PayPal. The LastPass prompt came up to add to LastPass but I cancelled it. After that back to all passkeys failing while LastPass is enabled.
