How do I create a new password in the Vault?

I have a free account that (usually) works fine on one Dell laptop. On the slightly more recent Dell laptop I also have, LastPass gives me the runaround!

The browser app does not work most of the time: it is greyed out and gives me a blank square about 5mm x 5mm when I click on it (rather than sign-in popup).

Since this feature doesn't work, I want to be able to generate passwords via the Vault, but the help page (which is identical whether accessed via Help or Community) gives instructions only for using the app.

Please help!
