Unable to Export passwords on desktop when mobile devices is active device type

Hi,

If you are a LastPass Free customer with Mobile as your device type you can still export your data from your vault using a desktop computer without changing device types. To this:

Make sure you are not signed in though the LastPass browser extension if you have it installed
Sign into your LastPass account directly onhttps://lastpass.com/
Click on Advanced Options
Click on Export
Check your email (or security email if you have one set up on your account), for an email from LastPass
Click Continue Export
Go back to your LastPass account and click Advanced Options > Export again
A new tab will open with your vault entries which you can then copy and paste into a CSV

It is indeed the case. I did manage to access the browser app option to export. But, the exported CSV file is 0 bytes and contains headers only.

This is the situation right now:

Cannot export data from the mobile app (no option)
Cannot export data from the desktop app (no more activations)
Cannot export data from the browser extension (no more activations)
Cannot export data from your account on the LastPass website (no more activations)

I have hunted online, through LastPass articles and other guides, for ways to access our LastPass data, all to no avail.

Hi, I was trying to leave lastpass because I am low income and cannot afford $27 to upgrade to premium. Maybe if you allowed users to pay monthly ($3 bucks I can manage) but $27 annually is just too hard for me to justify right now. If I do, I'm forfeiting money set aside for a dental copay I had planned. I don't make a lot of money and like many Americans, I have two jobs and work 6 days per week, 9 hours per day. In this greedy country where only the corporate CEOs and bankers get bailouts and tax breaks, myself and my wife are stuck in minimum wage jobs, myself with no benefits nor retirement plan (luckily my wife somehow managed to find a job with benefits) and a car payment & car costs (insurance, gas, registration) that totals $1,100 per month. We've fallen behind in rent by $4,000 and it just seems harder and harder to even get a REAL career where benefits and a livable wage are a thing. I apologize for going on quite the tangent here. Forgive me but online forum communities are kind of my therapy .

So what do I have to do in order to export all of my data to a .csv file? I've used up all of my "switch to desktop/mobile" options (by the way, NEVER switch to mobile! It's useless and you can't do anything worth while!). The link "export data" is grayed out when I try to click under advanced settings. Do I literally have only one choice: to pay the stupid $27 bucks for a whole year of a service I DO NOT WANT, just to export my data and bounce?? Somebody please help. I'm really saddened by the direction LP has decided to go in. After six years of being somewhat satisfied with lastpass, I can no longer use your application due to financial hardship. It's just impossible until I can find a job that doesn't screw over college graduates like myself. Sorry and thanks in advanced for your assistance and thanks to those who read my story.

Our development team is currently working to fix an issue causing Free users to not be able to export from a browser if they have Mobile Devices set as their active device type. In the meantime while our team works to fix this issue ASAP, we can reset your switches so that you can switch to Desktop, export, then switch back to Mobile as your active device type. So that we can reset your switches, could you send me a private message with the email address associated with your LastPass account? To send me a private message, please click my username to view my profile, then click the blue "Send a Message" button in the upper right.

Since this issue hasn't actually been rectified, the solution is:

1. Sign up for the free trial of Families LastPass.

2. Log into your account on the website or browser extension.

3. Go to Advanced Options > Export > Export CSV.

This is a simple solution that could have been posted as an answer originally.

Dear Support team, i already switched my lastpass to mobile without knowing its already 3 times. Now i want to export all data in csv file. But it does'n work on iphone, and on desktop browser i can not login anymore.

Hi I tried to do this and switched my active device to laptop.

The chrome extension would not let me login, I get an error stating my password is incorrect

So I switched active device back to mobile, to see if I could there.

The android app logs me in (so my password must be correct)

Yet the android app does not seem to have an export function.

I've used up active devices this way.

Could you try logging in to your LastPass account athttps://lastpass.com/?ac=1 (not from the browser extension) and seeing if you can export there? You shouldn't need to switch your active device type (if you get a message about switching device types close or dismiss that notice) and you should see the option to Export after clicking Advanced Options on the left side menu of your Vault after logging in athttps://lastpass.com/?ac=1

Have you tried the steps above to access LastPass in a browser window athttps://lastpass.com/?ac=1(not from the extension) and dismissing the notice about your currently active device to see if you can then export? Are you not able to dismiss/close the notice about your active device type, or what do you see when logging in to LastPass via the browser URL above?

Were you looking to export your passwords? If so, you should be able to export via a Desktop browser by accessing LastPass in a browser window athttps://lastpass.com/?ac=1(notfrom the extension) and dismissing the notice about your currently active device to see if you can then export. Are you not able to dismiss the notice about your currently active device type when trying these steps?

I’m experiencing same issue, it’s been a while so I’m guessing devs are done, the current situation is as follows:

1. Login to LastPass desktop

2. Go to settings, advanced

3. Export, it’ll prompt me for master password in a new page

4. After setting master password (new page closes) nothing happened.

Tried as well from chrome extension with same behavior.

Worth to mention I have 0 switches left and main device is mobile. Is there any open source code I can contribute to?

Hi,

You guys are not letting the user export their passwords.This happened after whenI switched to the mobile device. I am trying to export my passwords from google chrome browser extension for more than a month. When I go to advance and then export, it sends a verification email and I clicked on verification email, it asks for master password and then I entered the same, nothing happens.

I am unable to export my passwords as csv even after verifying it from my email inbox. Please see the screenshots below.

Please help as soon as possible.

So has this turned out not to the case (so far) - an update that corrects this hasn't come out yet? Seems like it, but maybe I missed something on one of the 3 pages of comments in this thread? It's been 7 months.

@LogicA fix has not been released yet. Any mobile only Free plan customers that have used up all of their device switches can contact us to request an additional one so they can switch to the desktop and export their data. I have done this for multiple customers here in community.

I have found myself inadvertently locked to my mobile phone for accessing my passwords, and I can find no way to export my passwords via mobile or the desktop browser plugins. I can see other similar posts from months ago, so it would seem the LastPass still has not resolved this issue. To be honest, the length of time involved here raises very serious questions about wether this is being done on purpose to force frustrated users to sign up to your new, unreasonably expensive annual plans. This is completely unacceptable and needs to be resolved immediately.

Please advise how I can export all of my data ASAP. Many thanks.

Thanks for helping to resolve the problem. Are you able to provide the community with some information on why this bug has not been resolved?

This is something that just should not be happening in the first place, let alone clearly be not even a minor priority for the dev team to fix.

People have the right to access their data, and for something like passwords, this is about as important as it gets in terms of data. There is little doubt you are in contravention of many laws in many countries as a result of this bug, yet you guys seem unwilling to fix it.

Personally, I will be reporting this to the relevant authorities here in Australia, and I encourage anyone else to do the same for whatever part of the world they are from. It is simply not good enough.
