can I Use Google authenticator to enable cloud backup so if my phone breaks I can install LastPass on another phone and all my info will be there?

A few notes for anybody reading this which might save you the hour plus it took me to figure out how to do this correctly. You have to sign in with a Google extension on your computer but you don't have to switch to a computer as your new device because you only get three switches. You will get an email on your mobile phone that you can then click to login to the website on your phone. After that it said

Verify export

All set! Go to your vault to continue the export process.

No idea what that meant but I noticed it logged me out again So I went through the process two more times and finally on the third time it allowed me to log in one more time into a different login dialog and that's finally downloaded my vault.

Community support has been fantastic but LastPass has so much to improve in terms of ease of use but for a free user I can't complain too much it was worth 3 hours of my time to finally figure this out.

You don't need the Google Authenticator to back up your LastPass Vault, though you can use it as a 2-factor authenticator to gain access to the LastPass account and even allow for offline access:https://support.logmeininc.com/lastpass/help/how-do-i-set-up-and-configure-the-google-authenticator-app-in-lastpass

Thanks for that great answer. Was trying to avoid downloading LastPass authenticator for cloud access because I already have Google authenticator. I assume the vault is only stored locally on my phone if I don't have LastPass authenticator? Could I save a copy of the vault in say Google drive and then download it to a different phone to get around downloading last pass authenticator?

Forgetting authenticators for a moment. How can I backup my LP data to a file that I can then upload to any cloud service I want so later I can download it to a new phone?

To my knowledge, Google Authenticaotr does not include a cloud back up option like LastPass Authenticator, or an option to export. Typically, when you set up 2FA for a new site they give present you with some back up/emergency codes. You could store them some place safe separate from your phone in case you ever lose it or it is damaged.

You can export your Vault as either an encrypted CSV (using a password you create), or a regular CSV.

But wait there's more.... After downloading the vault export I realized only 1/10 of the vault was actually exported so I went back and did it three more times and still the same exact results the only way to actually get all of my data was to very carefully select portions of what was displayed in my browser as the text file and carefully Paste back all the pieces into a text file. There was some overlap but better to have more data than missing stuff. This is really a terrible implementation and people who think they exported their entire vault are due for a really horrible surprise when they actually have to use the backup... LastPass please fix this
