Only one Passwordless device?

I have a desktop and laptop both running Windows 11 Pro with fire fox. I have Windows hello set up with fingerprint sensor on both devices. I was able to set up Lastpass to use my fingerprint sensor as a password-less log in option with no issues. When tried to do the same on my laptop I was immediately. taken to the success screen without doing of the setup on the windows side. When I go to log into my vault windows hello asked me to use my USB key. I dont have a USB key and never set one up. I tied the same on edge and got the same result.

Then I got on the phone with Lastpass support and they tell me that I can only have one device enrolled in password-less even though the site is clearly meant to support multiple devices in this manner and makes no mention of this when i got to add other devices.

Has anyone had any luck using Windows Hello to log into their vault?

Is this a temporary thing that will be fixed soon?

This is not a solution, but I'm just adding comments about my similar experience.

I enabled passwordless on my Macbook M2 and it worked great with the fingerprint button.

I then found that on my Windows desktop, it no longer offered Lastpass authenticator 2FA and I had to use SMS for 2FA.

I therefore bought a yubikey for my Windows 11 desktop and naively thought that I'd be able to use that for passwordless on my Windows desktop. It seems that you can't use per device passwordless, with different FIDO2 devices, unless I'm mistaken.

After lots of testing, I'm back to using Authenticator based 2FA for all devices. I'm reluctant to experiment further, as testing previously involved using SMS and I eventually locked out my SMS capability.

So, can anyone out there tell me how to enable passwordless on my mac (which works), while also enabling it on my Windows desktop, with the yubikey ? ... or are my expectations wrong ?

I'm getting the impression here that once account settings are made, they apply to all devices, even though Lapstpass has the ability in general to recognise different devices. I know that, as I trust one of my devices and don't use any 2FA on it.

I am sorry about the issue you are having with the Passwordless login. Unfortunately, at this time you can only have Passwordless with a FIDO2 authenticator in one device only. Please see the limitations & compatibility section on this article.

I also have the problem with Passwordless (via Windows Hello fingerprint) on a 2nd device. And the confusing message to "Tap your security key on the reader or insert it into the USB port" (I have never set up a security key).

I believe your answer that Passwordless can only be on 1 device, but:

The document on the web page titled "Use desktop biometrics for passwordless login in LastPass" (https://support.lastpass.com/s/document-item?language=en_US&bundleId=lastpass&topicId=LastPass/passwordless_login_desktop_fido2_enable_use.html&_LANG=enus) clearly describes how to set it up on a second device in the last paragraph ("What to do next").
Why doesn't the SW prevent me from configuring Passwordless on a 2nd device? It should tell me that it's not allowed.
Why does your system think I have a security key?

There are clearly some problems that need to be fixed. Hours wasted! Again! 😠 I really don't like LastPass anymore.

Ok, so we get it... "at this time" it isn't possible to configure passwordless via Windows Hello PIN on two devices at the same time. But what does "at this time" mean? Until a month from now? A year? Maybe never? As a paying customer, I would really like more info on the plans...

When is this basic feature going to be available? I have no idea why you would think limiting Touch Id to just 1 device is a good thing?

I have 3 Windows computers and an Android phone with LP on Firefox. I can sign in with fingerprint ID on the Android but cannot understand with LP can't make Windows Hello work on more than one computer. The issue for me is having to input my long email address and a very long password before I even get to 2FA on the two computers where I can't sign in with Windows Hello. And it's especially annoying since LP logs you out automatically after 24 hours.

Please, please, please FIX THIS! Maybe as a premium feature? At some point, the annoyance will be enough to justify switching to another pw manager.

I've been a paying lastpass customer for 5 years now.

LastPass has too many of these strange behaviors.

You can't use biometric signin on multiple devices (or even on the same device if you have different chrome profiles or use different browsers on the same device. That is a silly limitation
Even if you have passwordless enabled, when you want to fill in a password and you have "ask for password" setup, last pass will make you enter your master password! Completely defeats the purpose!

I think it's high time to switch to 1Password.

I agree with the concerns raised here. Not allowing a passwordless FIDO2 setup via Windows Hello, Touch ID or USB keys on more than one device isn’t a “feature limitation” or a matter of convenience - it’s a security issue.

If a user has multiple trusted devices, forcing them back into master-password plus SMS, or other weaker and more failure-prone flows on the second device, increases risk and creates confusing, inconsistent behavior. For example, the “insert your USB security key” prompt can appear even when no key was ever configured. That’s not just annoying - it undermines the whole point of modern, phishing-resistant authentication.

What makes it worse is that this has been acknowledged for years without a real solution or a clear roadmap. At this point it feels like LastPass simply doesn’t want to solve it.

I’ve been subscribing to LastPass Family Premium for many years, but I don’t see a reason to continue paying if LastPass won’t invest in fixing these kinds of fundamental product and security gaps. Passwordless should work across multiple devices reliably and transparently, without pushing people into less secure fallbacks.
