Hello,
The most common reasons for this behavior include a conflict with the LastPass cache, which can bemanually cleared through the LastPass browser app, and also any competing password managers, such as Apple and Google's built-in auto-fill.
It can be tricky to confirm built-in autofill is disabled, so if you're using Safari you may want to reference this support doc for specific instructions.
Chrome users may want to refer to this document if the problems persist.
You probably inadvertently saved the master password to your browser's own internal password manager. Check those saved passwords and delete any LastPass items that shouldn't be there.
I am having the same issue.
I am also having the same issue, and it is making LastPass unusable.
That's definitely not the cause of the issue for me, jpenny84. Because I rarely use the browser's password manager, but it happens for every single password entry I go into, regardless. When I click on the eye icon, it updates the password to either my master password for Last Pass or to a previous version of the password. I'm going to transfer my passwords elsewhere, because it's made Last Pass completely useless for me.
At least try disabling it for your browser and see what happens.

Again, you need to check the saved entries in your browser's password manager. It's common for people to accidentally save LastPass data to it, and then the browser will overwrite LastPass fields.
Thanks. I tried disabling the browser's password manager and the problem still persists.
I don't usually save my Last Pass main one password because I worry that if I am hacked, they will get all my passwords, but, this was helpful because I did in fact do that. Thanks so much for your help jpenny84!!! this was really helpful!
I am having the same problem, it does it right before my eyes. And no I did not save the LP master password to any site.
Okay, since people aren't clearing out or disabling their browser's password manager that's causing the problem, let's try something else. Reproduction steps suggest that users are interacting with the web interface. If so, why not use the browser extension?
Install the extension if it's not already, remove all LastPass bookmarks, and use the red LastPsas icon instead.

I am having the same problem. I changed a bunch of passwords in edit mode, When I then click the eye to look at them, it shows one password for about one second then it changes to another password which I have never set. Sometimes the first password shown briefly is one that I had set, sometimes it is not. The user experience is the only consistent thing, awful, awful and awful every time.
I am having the same issue. It's made LastPass unusable.
This keeps happening to me too. It has been like this for a while. I thought it was a bug that would get fixed, but it keeps happening.
Hi All, This issue has been troubling me for couple of weeks now -- which brought me to this page!
After reading jpenny84's initial suggestion, I went into my Edge Browser's password page:
edge://wallet/passwords/details/lastpass.com?filter=lastpass
There I could see a duplicate entry for Lastpass --- 1 with the weird password that was overwriting the passwords in Lastpass --- (may be I clicked save password in a hurry!!!)
Anyways that was the culprit! Once I deleted the Lastpass entry from Edge Browser's password vault, the issue stopped!!
Thanks jpenny84!
I'm not sure tha tthis will help everyone, but it could help those using Google Chrome as your browser. I realized that "somehow" my master LastPass PW somehow got saved when using my email in Google Password Manager...to check this (and delte this from Google Password Manager, go into Chrome / Passwords / Manage Passwords and search for "Last Pass"...then find the entry which has your email address (or any other userid that you use in Last Pass), and simply delete any entries which have your LastPass Master Password...this solved the problem for me and I hope it does for you too!
With Edge, deleting the bookmark for LP and using only the extension seems to work for me. Thanks.
@User17141623490759018290Thank you for this.
I tried following lots of different ideas and this is the one that resolved the issue on Google Chrome.
How the f*%# am I ever going to remember the password to get into LastPass if it isn't saved in Chrome?
Hi,
You can save the LastPass credentials in chrome or any other browser (as long as it stays safe and there is only 1 entry of LastPass there)
If the browser has multiple entries of Lastpass credentials then this issue will occur.

This happens to me too, this is so annoying.
What good is a password manager that changes your pass words on it's own. Isn't that the number one priority for the program and if it can't do that flawlessly why is anyone screwing around with it. I'm out
