Remember master password missing

I've been using Lastpass Premium for more than 10 years, but now I have serious issue.

In my browser extension there is suddenly no 'remember master password option' after I write down my log-in e-mail address. I've tried to purge whole browser together with its extensions but it did not help. Also, I've tried with my other account and the option was there working as it should. Moreover, I tried it on various devices.

But as soon as I put e-mail address for my main account, this option simply disappears. So I assume it has to do something with my account particularly.

Hi all,

The Remember Password option will be not be returning as you previously used it.However, you may utilize LastPass' ability to trust a device for a period so you do not have to log in every time.

I have a family pass and on my wife's account the "Remember Password" option is missing from the login advanced options. If I expand the "Advanced Options" in the login dialog the "Remember Password" option is missing. How do I enable this? This is using the Chrome Lastpass Extension.

Is your wife's account part of a LastPass Teams or Business account?If your LastPass Teams orLastPass Businessuser account has the "Remember Master Password"policy disabled, the Remember Password option may not be displayed on the login screen of the web browser extension, desktop app, or mobile app you use to access your Vault.

Could you try uninstalling the LastPass extension/app, then restarting the computer/device and reinstalling from here to see if then the Remember Master Password option is there? Please note you may need to click Advanced Options in order to see/enable the Remember Master Password option.

The option to remember the Master Password has been removed as an option. Besides being a security concern it also greatly increases the chance of a LastPass customer forgetting their Master Password which can lead to losing access to all of their data.

Same here. I've already started evaluating other solutions. I use this feature on my PC at home which is secure and not shared. I want it to be easy. Away from my home, I do not use this feature.

This is not a negotiable feature for me and I will choose a different app if it is not brought back. Please don't protect me from me, I am quite capable of making the decision whether or not to use the remember my password option.

Totally agree and while I understand the reasoning, taking it away without providing a way to get it back is just an awful user experience and really poor design evolution. LP is now forcing ALL users to type in their master password each time because SOME users cannot manage to remember their ONE password. I'm now typing my master password in hundreds of times a day as I cycle between devices, browsers, reboots, etc. which is making me look at reverting to a weaker master password and implementing other less secure features to avoid the overhead this added. As a 10 year LP user with over 400 items in LP not counting items from my other family plan users - all of us using MFA - this now has me looking for alternatives as this change is a major pain point. Please consider re-adding this feature to the Advanced Settings for those users savvy enough to remember their one password.

I have the same problem. No matter what Browser I use ( I have used, Edge, Chrome & Mozilla). My Windows 11 machine doesn't suffer from this issue. Both of my Windows 10 machines have this problem and if I have to enter the password every time I open the Browser, it defeats the purpose of having a password saver. It is also buggy at times when auto loading usernames and passwords.

Please fix this problem! I uninstall, clear cache, reboot and reinstall and still have the problem!

I've read the Release Notes & I can't find anything mentioning the Removal of the "Remember Password" Option for Browser Extensions. Is this specific to certain Operating Systems or Versions? The Policy is still available within the Admin Console for our Account, so is it based on Subscription Type? Can you provide any links to additional information?

This "Remember Password" Option is available and working properly on Windows 10 units, but I have seen the issue on a Windows 7 PC & would like any additional info I can pass on to my team so we're prepared.

I concur with SS123 and others who object to this feature removal.

Making it harder to use features which have non-obvious (to some people) consequences is understandable. However, it is not appropriate for Lastpass to hard-code risk decisions on behalf of its entire user base. While this may have relieved a support pain point for Lastpass, it has created a new one for its paying customers, which, on top of the renewal fiasco we experienced recently (), creates additional incentive to consider alternative products.

Please put back the save-master-password option, even if buried where one must go looking for it deliberately.

I am an IT consultant and have secure machines that I have always had set to remember password. I understand the security concern, but we should be given the option to take measures other than remembering the password on secure machines.

The fact that some people may forget their password is no excuse to remove this feature... they are warned when setting up their account and/or changing their password. I can't remember everything, so I have my iPhone setup to allow me to reset the password with face ID, which is also considered pretty secure.

Lastpass, If you are worried about liability, simply make users agree to yet another warning before opting to save the master password... ALL YOU ARE GOING TO DO BY REMOVING THE OPTION IS FORCE USERS TO USE SHORTER, SIMPLER, ***MORE INSECURE*** PASSWORDS DUE TO HAVING TO ENTER IT EVERY TIME THEY OPEN THEIR BROWSER!

As a consultant and value-added reseller and have been considering requiring all my managed services clients to use a password manager... Lastpass WAS my top choice. I am considering other options now.

This is the single most annoying thing lastpass has done to its loyal customers for many years. I have 2 factor authentication enabled as well so that when I try to login I still have a layer of security. Disabling the remember master password feature means i will have to find an alternative product. Cant keep typing the same password multiple times a day. :Lastpass support keeps saying remove your extension and reinstall to bring the feature back- This only works for a fresh install and forgets the password once you close the edge browser!

Please listen to your customers or lose a loyal base (I've used this for at least 8 years now!)

To this end, I've now cancelled my auto-renewal. It's been fun, but there are other solutions that will provide this functionality for me.

That doesn't square with what@"GlennD" above said, which is that the feature was removed. Either something has changed since Glenn's post, or he is mistaken, or support is mistaken.

Please make sure you are setting up multiple account recovery options, having the master password saved either in the extension or in your browser means no recovery one-time passwords are being generated and you will not be able to use the default account recovery if something happens to your computer.

Same problem here - in Chrome under Windows, the Master Password is remembered. Under Chrome OS, I can enable the "Remember Password" toggle after installing the LastPass extension. However, when I reboot, I am logged out and have to enter the password again, and the"Remember Password" toggle is not visible. When I delete my email address, the option appears, but as soon as I enter the last letter of my email address, it disappears automatically.

This cannot be right. And it should be up to the (paying) users to decide if they want to have their password remembered, or not. Having to enter the password after each startup is a deal-breaker. If this is really intentional, LastPass will be history for me 😞

I installed Firefox for Linux in ChromeOS, added the LastPass extension, and voila, the option to remember the password is there, and it works!

So, it doesn't seem like the option was removed after all - it's just not working in Chrome (under ChromeOS) for some reason.

Looks like it is a bug. The option to remember the master password is there when the extension is first installed (on both Chrome and Firefox both Mac and Windows), it is missing after you log in and log out. The strange thing is the option appears for the business plan, but not the family plan.

I don't need your experiences and opinions dictating what I am or am not allowed to do. It's a reasonable feature to allow me to decide whether or not in my individual situation it makes sense to use the Remember Master Password option. Please bring this option back, whether it's a bug fix, or a software revision, get it done already.

Just got off the phone with "Sebastian" where he explained, in no uncertain terms, that the option to remember the master password and forego having to reauthenticate every time you restart your web browser has been removed from the software. He claimed that once your "session" is ended you must reauthenticate.

Considering this flies in the face of WHY you use a password manager in the first place, I have to wonder if "Sebastian" was simply clueless or if someone at Lastpass/Logmein has taken leave of their senses. When I pointed out that this change made no sense, that it was made without warning or explanation, that it effectively broke the application for the purpose for which I bought it, he politely apologized and suggested I submit a feedback about the issue. When I pointed out that this effectively wasted the subscription I foolishly bought into, that changing software in such a critical way without offering the customer a choice, turning the application into a waste of money, he cheerfully explained that there were no refunds. That the money I foolishly sunk into a year's family subscription (Jan 3rd coincidentally), is forfeit regardless of how badly any changes made to the software break its functionality and impact my ability to use it. I'm going to ask my bank to chime in on this and see what they say.

My guess is only when it starts impacting their bank/merchant accounts will Lastpass/Logmein actually do something to fix this problem given it's been going on for months now.

Good luck anyone else bit by this. I don't know if they actually removed the option, if it's a bug, if it's a problem with chrome, or even something specific with 'family' I was dumb enough to pay for, but it's broke and calling support for help is an exercise in frustration and futility. The message I'm getting is "We don't care how upset this makes some of our customers, we're not fixing it even if it IS broke."

Guess I'm jumping ship to Dashlane, or similar. I'll be advising my peers to do the same. The sheer unfortunate part is I've already convinced many to try lastpass out, now I get to relate this story to them in the hopes that they've been making do with the free version.

You see, Glenn, that's just it. Someone at Lastpass decided they know better than I how to manage my own security. That the cameras around my place, the fingerprint sensors, facial sensors, and so forth I use to guard my computers on which I run your software, isn't sufficient for them. That I must log in, over, and over, and over, so I don't have to log in, over and over and over, as if that makes any sense whatsoever. So they impose their ideal of how I should protect myself. I guess I should be lucky you didn't send some guys around with straight-jackets to haul me off to a rubber lined room just in case I feel the need to start cutting on my own hide. I don't appreciate being told I don't know what's good for me and since both you and Sebastian seem to believe it's acceptable to make changes to your software and then ignore the customers you upset in the process, I'm voting with my dollars and I vote you out. Lastpass can take a long walk off a short pier. You ever decide you want to listen to your customers again instead of deciding what's best for them without even asking you've got my email address.

When you sign in to the LastPass browser extensions you can select to trust the computer for up to 30 days, which means you session will not expire for 30 days and you will not have to sign in every time you restart your web browser. As long as:

you are not clearing your browser history and cahce the session cookie will remain and you will not need sign in all the time.
your LastPass extension preferences are not set the sign you out

I can select to trust the computer for 30 days, but this is valid only for 2FA. This works.

Nevertheless, I still have to enter the password every time the browser is opened, because here, the option to remember the pw is missing.

So, unfortunately, that's not the solution to the problem...

We want LastPass to restore previous functionality by providing an advanced option to remember the Master Password. There's an advanced option for MFA "Disable Multifactor Trust Expiration - Don't end trust period after 30 days." so there should be something similar for the Master Password.

If anything, as hackers and keyboard loggers are becoming an every increasing threat, the better security option is remembering the Master Password so it doesn't have to be typed in every time and always forcing MFA instead.

I login to a fresh session hundreds of times a day, and I do not want to have to type my long secure Master Password every time, however, I do want to be prompted for MFA which is a one-click authenticate action on my secure device. This provides a better, simpler user experience without compromising security. There are already other ways users may setup recovery options if they forget their Master Password.

I have a Yubikey which I use for LastPass and a strong password to log into my Ubuntu computer. I feel that's enough protection and I think it's my responsibility how to manage my security.
