Firefox addon no longer runs

I've used the Firefox extension for years, but as of the last couple browser updates, it hasn't been working. Always I used to just click on the toolbar icon and a login bubble will pop-up. Now only a stubby sliver of a seemingly empty bubble appears, and I see no way to log in or turn the thing on. It's up-to-date, according to the browser addon manager. Is every Firefox user experiencing the same?

While browsing lastpass extensions with an idea of trying one for a different browser, I noticed that the version number for the Firefox extension was specified 4.124.0, and not 4.124.0.4, as was the one I had installed. Thinking it was an earlier version, and that I might be better off installing from the lastpass site rather than Mozilla, I downloaded and installed it. It shows up 4.124.0.4 in Firefox, but now it works. I don't know why.
