Since yesterday, LastPass has started logging me out automatically. Even though I haven't changed any settings, and even though I have it set to only log out when the browser is completely closed it keeps disconnecting me within 1-2 minutes. What...

...'s wrong?

(and I have not enabled auto logout when idle), the system keeps logging me out every few minutes. This is not what I want—it actually goes against the whole reason I use LastPass. It's frustrating to have to enter my master password every time I try to access a site that requires a login.

I completely removed the LastPass Chrome extension, reinstalled it, and tried again—but nothing changed. I log in, and then (for example, while working in a different browser on another monitor—I have 3 monitors), suddenly LastPass in Chrome logs out immediately.

I've been using my PC like this for years, and I never experienced such logouts unless I closed Chrome completely. This just started happening all of a sudden…

What is the issue? What suddenly changed to cause this?

This is also happening to me. I also can't see my vault at all in order to check my settings. After I log into the browser extension, I click vault, the page just stays empty. I can't even log into the lastpass.com web page to change my settings.

Same issue for me and multiple other users for us.. I've had a lastpass ticket open with their support since the 4th. We've seen these issues since April 2nd. They've only replied once on my support ticket and that was the same day I submitted it.

No update since but I hope they resolve this soon.

The same issue for me... continually have to log back in and the Vault has disappeared and I cannot access my credentials

yup same issues. Lastpass ticket said basic things I already check. I know its either a chrome update or lastpass is having issues. Has anyone been able to inform them. I can be on chrome and watch as this happens about 10 minutes or so I am logged out. Very weird and if I don't see a resolution soon I guess I will have to plan my migration finally..

Hello AshC_LP, I have an open ticket on this very problem. In spite of a response from support to upgrade chrome to 1.140.2, I am still having problems. It also appears that "share state between browsers" is not working as logging on chrome does not share with EDGE. I have update the ticket with other strange things going on, as settings I was instructed to set to prevent this problem "website and bookmarklet auto logoff set to 2 weeks" don't hold and keep resetting to one day. Also keep losing passwordless windows hello settings.

I have the same issue, every few minutes logs off and need to login.

i am having this issue since last week. I created support ticket and they asked me to clear some cache and remove extension and reinstall extension but with no luck. Still waiting for a resolution. it just automatically logs out in less than 10 minutes

I am a paid customer and I was asked to do the same thing. I am not sure this worked at first (and I think some funny setting problems exist, especially when I tried to also fix this problem in EDGE, and also because I kept losing my passwordless turned on setting.)

But I went through the process several times (due to my confusion and the settings not seeming to carry over to EDGE), and so far Chrome has stayed one for a day. Chrome extension is now v 1.140.2 (Latest EDGE version is 1,140.1 per support) I hope this helps.

Here are the instructions I was sent. I have added my comments in bold where I got confused.

Please try the troubleshooting steps below to fix this behavior:

1. Clear the cache and cookies of your browser.

2. Uninstall the LastPass Extension from your Browsershttps://support.lastpass.com/s/document-item?language=en_US&bundleId=lastpass&topicId=LastPass/uninstall-lastpass.html&_LANG=enus

3. Add the LastPass Extension by going tohttps://lastpass.com/misc_download2.phpand select the option "Quick Install" (My comment, this is a little red button at the top of the page in the header which I missed the first time. Not the install options below the heading... I don't know why there is any difference though. This button takes you to the Chrome play store.)

4. Log back in through the LastPass Extension, right-click on it go to "Options" > "General" > "Security" and make sure both options "Log out when all browsers are closed" and "Log out after these many minutes of inactivity" are unchecked.

5. Access your Vault, click "Account Settings" > "Show Advanced Settings" > "Security" > "Website Auto log off and Bookmarklet Auto log off" are set to 2 weeks, click update, enter you Master Password to save the changes. (My comment: I got confused here too. There are more than one Account Settings in LP. You MUST be in your vault to get the right one; in the left side list it is the one after Families and above Advanced Options. Note that you do NOT want this Advanced Options. Once you click on Account Settings , the box of settings pops up and you are in General. At the bottom of this box, there is a button called Advanced Settings next to the Update button. Click on this and scroll down to find these two autologoff settings which are defaulted to one day, and change to two weeks, the max allowed.)

6. Additionally, make sure to check the settings of your Browser to make sure the cache and cookies are not being deleted when you close the browser, because it will kill the active LastPass Session as well.

Also having the same problem on 2 different machines. This only started recently as well.

Also have an open ticket. Problem is on Firefox. Have tried removing extension, clearing cache, history,cookies and re-installing as per Lastpass Support person.

No joy... stilling logging itself off.

Same issue for a week now with Edge. I have an open ticket with support. The directions from them of updating, clearing cache, un-installing and reinstalling the extension had no effect on the issue. My issue has not been resolved.

Same issue for me. It's just been recently, but I'm almost always logged out on the browser - chrome.

I just tried the suggestion mentioned above:

LastPass Account Settings > General tab > Show Advanced Settings > "Website Auto-Logoff" = 2 weeks.

It kept me logged in for over an hour, and I thought, “Yes, this must be the solution!” But then—boom—it logged me out again, suddenly.

Both of my auto-logout settings (for the website and the Chrome extension) are set to 2 weeks, but it still keeps logging me out.

So far it seems like this is working for me on Edge Mac and Windows.

That fixed the issue for us as well. However, we don't want all of our end users on this setting for security purposes.

Hopefully LastPass fixes this bug or reverts whatever change/update they made back to the original.

I was having this same problem on Firefox with LastPass extension v 1.140.2, then found the same instructions as SusanL1 above. After doing each step, then restarting Firefox, I've remained logged in to LastPass for 2 days so far. Thank goodness!

Same for me on Edge. Browser extension logs off automatically after a few minutes, or any time I close the browser for more than 10 or 15 minutes. I'm not a paid user so I can't log a ticket. This is really getting annoying.

It appears the part where you change it to two weeks is the answer. So LastPass changed something on their side where those settings actually log last pass out now where it didn’t before. These setting are the same as they always been and really arnt suppose to log LastPass out. So try to change it to two weeks on both of those settings and will probably work. Where LastPass use to stay logged in for 30 days it appears those settings override that now and we may only get two weeks but I guess that’s better than 10 mins or whatever. LastPass made a change and they know it so they should just say that and how to fix and why they made a change.

This seems like it resolved my issue:

It shows now "Auto-Logoff" It's company policy so i can't change it. Did lastpass change it? The description before said it's only for websites and now it says: "Automatically end all LastPass.com and browser extension sessions after the selected period of time."

So time consuming with this issue.

If not fixed soon, I'll try and find another solution

First of all, find a way to allow TOUCH ID users to log in directly with their fingerprints, just like any other application would. And this, without having to enter their email address and as long as they have chosen to "trust" the machine used for 30 days. Because for now, after a long period of inactivity, it is first necessary to log in with the password and then use their fingerprint.

hey, same here, in both firefox and chrome, after years using lastpass and without having changed anything, it logs me out after a couple of minutes. none of the solutions if found here seems to work... cheers.

Lastpass changed SOMETHING. I've been using LastPass since at least 2012 and been on a family plan for just about that long. And all 4 of us are suddenly logged out at random. I cannot fathom, as a developer myself, how LastPasss is unable to pinpoint what causes this. It should be a matter of going over the commits leading up to the latest release. This is annoying as hell and this is the third stunt LastPass has pulled over the years that makes me (almost) start looking for alternatives.

Any update for anyone on this? Same issue for me and I've tried all of the above. it seems that this started for me when I accidentally saved my Touch ID as an authentication method for LP.

I did, and it finally was resolved by support a week ago. I think they introduced a new feature in the vault; I had not changed anything, and was getting logged out every 30 minutes.

If you look at the photo shared in this thread by LastPass support, at the very bottom there are two (new?) options:

Website Auto-logoff
Bookmarklet Auto-logoff

In this image, they're set to 2 weeks. In mine, it was set to 30 minutes. I promise this was not anything I set, which is why I think it's a new feature. Also, it's not in the usual places under the browser extension.

(Why they chose to implement this, set it to a low timeout and then hide it in an obscure place is beyond me; and beyond most of the support team I think too, because it took a few tries to finally find the right solution for me)

Instead:

Log into your Vault
Account settings
Towards the bottom of General, click Advanced Settings
Then these nice little hidden gems that they added will show up

That should fix it after your next shut down and restart of the browser.
