Why doesn't LastPass time out after so long like the banking websites do?

Isn't it a security risk to have the browser active for 2 weeks and not time out?

I am grateful I can change this in settings.

Welcome to the LastPass Community.

The LastPass browser extension is set by default to stay active 2 weeks, but you can change these settings by going to your browser extension, click on Account, go to extension settings, and enable "Log out after this many minutes of inactivity" just choose the specific time to auto log out.
