How can I fix LastPass extension to automatically close when I close my browser?

I updated my LastPass extension for my Edge browser and "automatic logoff when I close my browser" no longer works.

It worked before I updated extension.

To fix the problem, I went into Account-Extension Settings-General-Security and "Log out when all browsers are closed" is selected. I saved the selections; closed the browser, but when I reopen the browser I am still logged into LastPass.

I need another solution.

Sometimes browsers will run services in the background even if they are closed. I would Ctrl + Shift + Escape and check the task manager for any processes still running.

Thank you. I think you are absolutely correct.

I went to the Microsoft Edge Community board and apparently MS Edge does continue to run in the background after a recent update. MS is not acknowledging this issue, but the impact on CPU utilization can be significant so there is a "lively" discussion on that board.

Having to change the registry (the recommended solution by Community Board) or manually closing Edge using Task Manager are inelegant solutions, but they work.

More than a CPU utilization problem, this is a Security concern. Since the LastPass vault will be exposed if you don't logoff computer or kill the all the Edge processes. the option "Log out when all browsers are closed" lost it's function.

Additionaly to Microsoft discussion, I'm opening a ticket to LastPass team to try to figure out a solution for this and I would recomend all people affected do the sa

I have been reporting this via a support ticket. LP wanted a screen recording and log, but I think the problem is not just me. It happens on both my mac and windows 10. LP logs out fine from Orion.

Same problem on Chrome browser on PC. (Both my ancient Surface and new desktop.) I've submitted bugs to LastPass twice, but no response.

It kind of makes LastPass about as secure as storing your passwords on an Excel spreadsheet (called "Passwords") on your desktop. Really! Actually, worse, now that I think about it!

I have the same problem running LastPass on Chrome on my Mac. Even when I shut down the computer (total shut down, unplugged, no battery), LP is still logged on when I power up again. There are so many issues now, I am thinking of switching to another password minder. I have used LP since 2014 and I pay every year for the premium service. This is just not good enough.

Another strange problem is that LP thinks I am logging on from a new machine every time I log in. This means I have to click on a link in my email to verify the "new" device. This doesn't feel like a security issue but is irritating nonetheless

I moved to Bitwarden and removed my LP vault. This was a deal breaker for me too.

I am having the same problem. I am also a premium subscriber. This is a deal breaker for me. I use the extension on my work computer that IT has remote access to. Can someone from LastPass at least respond or I am going to have to move on.

Same problem. Never logs me out if I keep Chrome open. I'm a Windows user. I have the timeout set to 90 minutes. Lastpass will stay logged in over the weekend when I've had no activity. Time to move to another password manager.

Same problem using edge which the current version. I'm talking with LP support now. They had me delete and reinstall the extension.

I opened a ticket with LP support on this weeks ago. It's a known issue. I have not heard back from them. I'm getting concerned they are either unable to fix it (unlikely) or are not taking security seriously.

LastPass keeps me logged in even though I have the timeout set at 60 minutes. I have been unable to resolve this. After many problems, and their security breaches, it's time to move on!!

Hello Friends,

My company has the same issue. Weirdly enough, we found that what was keeping it logged into chrome was the google chat app. Even though the google chat app isn't a chrome browser, it was for some reason acting like it? Once we closed that and then closed chrome, it logged out. But if we keep the google chat app open, lastpass stays logged in. I'm not sure if this applies to everyone, but try closing your other apps to find if one of them is keeping lastpass logged in.

I solved this issue in Chrome and Edge by going to Settings -> System and unchecking "Continue running background apps," then clearing cookies/cache.

Had the same problem with one of my Chrome/Google profiles (Mac) but not the other. Removing and reinstalling the extension in that profile actually fixed it for me.
