The temporary fix may not show the performance improvement right away, but take several minutes for the background actions to level out. Please let us know if the high CPU behavior persists after 10+ minutes using LastPass version 4.139.3.
Do we have an anticipated timeline for a fix? We have had several complaints about this and if the user is running two (or more) Chromium browsers, it utilizes an entire CPU thread for each of them. The only workaround is to delete the extension which is really not a solution since we need this running.
Hi @sparikian
We are working to resolve the issue of higher than expected CPU demands now.
Thanks for your patience.
please.. fix it...
first it was slow with high CPU.. then CPU was normal, but Copy/Past from Username/Passwd/TOTP Wasnt working (something with clipboard... That was fixed, it returned and now its running slow again with high CPU.. Come on.. fix it.. its your major products which is sucking CPU and frustrating customers..
What is your test-strategy.. Is it just Checking, Merge brachen and Deploy to production?!?!!Somewhere in this DEVOPS workflow, there need to be some testing... Please.. All my colleages are running against this issue... and Disabling the Extention isnt an option because its pushed by GPO settings...
This is horrible, last pass is sucking up cpu usage
The workaround I have is to go to the "Manage Extension" URL (chrome://extensions (for Chrome) or edge://extensions (for Edge)) and manually turn off the LastPass extension. Turn on the extension when you need it, then turn it back off immediately after.
This will restrict the max CPU usage only during the time the extension is on.
Seeing the same issue. It seems like there have been a lot of issues with this extension of late. Never used to be this way – LP was rock solid for years. What's changed?
It's "not higher than expected", it's stopping my computer! I'm running Edge on a Lenovo. There's a Reddit thread with others experiencing the same. 6+ days so far! We need a fix!
FYI, there's another post in this forum with others dealing with the same issue. It's well known by support ... and ignored. 😡
And another post. This one goes back months! Uh-oh.
This is very frustrating. I have to keep the extension disabled or my Mac will melt with the heat. Are you people testing changes before they are release on a variety of systems?
Got exact similar issue on Mac Chrome - 100 CPU usage.
Disabled access to all websites and keep it only by click - temporary solution
High CPU usage in Chrome on Macs is a common issue, often caused by background processes, heavy extensions, or inefficient tab management. Have you checked Chrome’s Task Manager (
Shift + Esc
in Chrome) to spot the biggest resource hogs? Disabling extensions, enabling hardware acceleration, or even switching to Safari can help. You could also try a fresh Chrome profile to rule out corrupted settings. Kind of like an In-N-Out Burger grilled cheese—sometimes simplifying things makes them run smoother! Are you noticing this issue with specific sites or just overall?
i amusing edge passwords with ms edge and no more lastpass now and all good
It kills my battery in about 90 minutes. Turning off the extension is the only workaround I've found so far.
I'm using linux and having the same problem.
Thanks for your patience, everyone.
Please perform a full re-install of the LastPass app to receive version 4.139.3, then log back into your account and please let us know if the issue remains.
i am giving up on lastpass
I uninstalled and reinstalled the extension on Chrome but there was no improvement whatsoever.
I then installed the extension on Edge which I never use but the slowness is the same
I have a case open with support and on Feb 13th they say:
"Currently, this is a known issue and has already been escalated. Our development team is actively working to resolve this matter."
Good to know this is a known issue in progress but it has been probably several months at this point, feels like that anyway. I have to disable the extension or my PC fans spin up and my laptop battery dies fast.
On my PC I'm using Linux Mint 22, Brave browser, and did the remove extension reinstall extension but it doesn't help.
You can click on the extension and get devtools by going to Extensions > LP > Details > Inspect Views > Service Worker. A new window pops up listing errors. Going to update my ticket.
@Ash Cannon
No, the latest version does NOT resolve the issue
Just got an answer from support. New version is out, 4.139.5. Instructed to uninstall/reinstall extension to get latest.
Did so and cpu usage looks normal so far.
I did actually try the "wait and see.." method after updating to the latest extension version and it did settle down. CPU usage is normal right now. Going to try it on my other computers. I hope it stays normal after reboots!
Hello. Somehow you managed to replicate this problem with Firefox. As soon as I disable LastPass, it goes back to normal, then it goes up again. Only after I disable the extension the system normalizes.
same problem
Version: 4.140.0
Built: Fri Feb 28 2025 18:49:10 GMT+0300 (GMT+03:00)
macos 14.7.4
chrome Version 134.0.6998.89 (Official Build) (arm64)
@mtfcs Can you please check for LastPass updates, and let us know if version4.139.5 helps resolve the behavior?
The change should have been implemented prior to v4.140. Can you see if the processing demands lower after 10+ minutes of browsing / LastPass app activity?
no change in cpu consumption after 10 minutes. cpu is used constantly
my version is newer, why i need to install old version?
and can you explain what is it?
