Solution to LastPass using wrong username and password for site

Hi All,

I couldn't find a simple straightforward answer to this issue so forgive me is this is a duplicate of another entry.

Whenever I would try to sign into Ancestry.com, the username and password fields would be automatically filled in with a username and password I haven't used in years. It wasn't a big deal because I could just select the correct login from the LastPass drop-down and it would fill in correctly. However, I wanted to know where that username/password was coming from.After a few frustrating hour trying to figure out if the incorrect data was coming from Chrome, LastPass, or something else, I finally determined it was indeed coming from LastPass.

When I looked at the Ancestry.com entry in my vault, it was correct. So, where was the old data coming from? After some more frustrating searching, I discovered that LastPass keeps a history of your usernames and passwords. It can be displayed by clicking on the icon that looks like a clock with an arrow around it above the username or password fields. When I looked there, sure enough, there was the old username. I could not figure out how to delete the history at that point. So here is how I fixed the problem.

- Took note of my current username and password

- Completely deleted the entry for the site from my LastPass vault (clicked on the trash can icon at the bottom of the entry)

- Recreated the entry for the site (You can do that simply by going to the site and logging in with the correct username/password and LastPass will ask you if you want to add it.)

After that, the wrong username/password were no longer auto-filled into fields on the site. I have no idea why LastPass would use the username/password from the history instead of the current settings.

I had a similar situation with one of my banks. As soon as the page loaded it would kind of toggle between a long and short password. If I displayed the passwords it was using it was a very old one. Everything in the entry looked correct. Today I discovered after clicking the wrench to edit an entry, there is an additional wrench icon at the bottom of the edit window that brought up "Edit Form Fields." My old password was stored as an additional form field called "j_password" and when I deleted that, the problem was solved. I imagine deleting the entry entirely probably would have worked too, but if it happens again this may be a good thing to check.

I had the same problem. Correct username but the wrong password would fill.

Before reading on, the OP solution worked for me.

While trying to resolve this, I received a message in Lastpass :

"Site: Boom has been updated. Also update here with the latest data?"

Responding YES did not resolve the problem.

As per OP solution, I copied the details, deleted the site in Lastpass and created a new site, which now works.

Incidentally, the wrong password being filled was NOT the most recent in the history !

It was the 4th last (4th from the bottom in history)

Go figure.

dfisher1342This was the solution for me! My old credentials were saved in those additional fields under the wrench icon. I updated it to my current username and now autofill is using the right login.

Brilliant find, dfisher1342. I had an additional gotcha, described here.

After clicking the wrench IN the password item (see dfisher1342 directions), and attempted autologin, it would not populate any password. Doh! It turns out I have two logins saved at this domain, so...
