Once upon a time I was able to log in using the LastPass extension without it opening the LastPass webpage.That has changed.Can I get the old way back?

The behavior of most LastPass browser extensions is to temporarily open the LastPass site in order to validate your credentials, after which the tab should close automatically.
If this is not the case, can you say what device and web browser you're using there? It could also be a browser setting within.
