LastPass uses session cookies to stay logged in. If you're not staying logged in, and it's not due to an extension setting, then you've got a browser configuration or third party security software wiping the cookies.
Hi @jpenny84, have you any suggestions as to how I can locate the source of this problem in my system? I have been using LastPass for several years with no issues, then about a week ago it suddenly decided to make me log in with Master password every time I open Chrome. I am using the same trusted device I always did, and I haven't made any changes to my system configuration for several months, so I'm completely baffled as to why this has started now. I would love to know how to track down and eliminate the source of the problem.
Thank you for any help you can offer!
I'm having the exact same issue. No changes to the browser. No changes to security software. Nothing in the extension. Just a bug which is making LastPass massively less user-friendly.
I wonder if anyone from LastPass monitors these threads - it would be nice if they had a look at what their customers are saying now and then, and maybe throw in some meaningful answers...
I guess it's somewhat comforting to know that I'm not alone. Same exact problem. I'm up for renewal on June 14th and if I don't see any answer by then I'm putting LastPass in the rearview.
Same here...google is starting to take over as my password manager...
@User17160697744705357803, but I just checked and "This can read and change site data > " is already set to "On all sites", so that doesn't seem to be the problem. Anyway, why would LastPass suddenly change its own extension setting? I know I didn't change anything, so the issue must be with LastPass. It is really frustrating to have to log in with Master Password every time, when all the settings indicate that this shouldn't happen...
I am getting this same behavior, but the first answer above clarified it for me. It depends on the extension setting ( accessible when you Right click on the extension icon)
for "This can read and change site data >" with choices being:
1) When you click the extension 2) on xxx site [the current page] or 3) On all sites.
I have started using "When you click the extension" because lastpass sometimes fills in 'bad guess info' on some website forms. But, when I have option #1 chosen ( "When you click the extension"), AND I left click on the extension icon to open the vault, it APPEARS that on the next tab that Lastpass would open to display the vault, Lastpass extension is not enabled! It is like the extension cannot open and access a new tab to display the Vault! In this case, I am logged out of the extension, and a new tab opens to the Lastpass website with a new prompt to sign in, and there, on the web version, the vault is opened for me to access. Plus, on that tab, I receive a notification banner at the top of the page to install the Lastpass Extension on my browser! I'm thinking that with this "When you click" option enabled, the extension is totally shut off and inaccessible and undetectable by default.
BUT, when I set the extension setting for "This can read and change site data > " to " On all sites" everything works OK, and I can open the vault locally as normal.
so ... please check your extension settings.
Same here. It was already set to "on all sites"....still not behaving.
I just found this. I don't know if this is the issue or not but it certainly could be.
https://developers.google.com/privacy-sandbox/3pcd#:~:text=to take action.-,To facilitate testing, Chrome has restricted third-party cookies by,deprecation starting in early 2025.
I see they released Version 4.131.1 today the 21st. Installed it and now cannot login at all.\
Same issue here - I opened a support ticket with them a couple weeks ago and they finally responded today and said the issue is fixed but I'm still being logged out.
@User17162275235462157317, I think you may be on to something here. If this group is part of the 1% of Chrome users who have 3rd party cookies disabled by Google, it might explain the issue we are having. The only problem with that theory is that I would expect a major player like LastPass to be on top of this, and have implemented a workaround before it became a problem for users. I'd also expect them to issue a bulletin telling their users what was happening. I really don't know, and as I'm a free license user, I can't contact LastPass Support to ask them the question directly. I'll just keep hoping that someone else will find the solution!
Nice!! They really seem to be trying to reduce their customer base!
same problem, very annoying. I'm due for renewal this fall, and I think I know what I'm going to do...
I am also having this problem, and am searching for a solution, because I have used Lastpass for years, and am a paid subscriber.
I also have another problem, which is that before all this started, I would click on a link in Lastpass and it would open a tab on the right of all tabs in Chrome. Now it opens a tab to the left of all tabs, next to the Lastpass tab, which pushes my email tab further to the right. I cannot find any setting to tell it to go back to opening a new tab on the right.
I have had an open case for this for over a week now. After trying all the suggested fixes none of them have changed anything. LastPass works fine in edge but not Chrome. I was able to log into a support test account and LastPass would stay logged in. This suggested it was my account that was corrupt. I exported my data and "Reset" my account as requested. The import of my data was successful but it still would not stay logged in. I did notice that when I logged into LastPass a Windows security window would popup verifying my identity. This led me to delete my Windows passkey and remove the Multifactor options. I then logged out and rebooted. This seems to be working as I can now close Chrome and even reboot while LastPass stays logged in.

This did not work for me.
Hey all,
I was having the same problem, and this thread nudged me in the right direction. Here's how I solved it:
Hope this works for others.
Ben
There is evidence of A LOT of problems beyond the logout problem, so LastPass support should look at what I documented below:
1/ Because my security score was 32.6% and labeled as "low safety," I first added TFA. My score did not go up and it kept logging me out.
2/ It said I have 353 "at risk" passwords. The first one on its list said "reused" and was for a bank (it isn't reused, but whatever). I changed the password, but it still gave me the same message for that bank login. After several minutes, it stopped showing the bank password on its list of weak passwords.
After changing three passwords (only 350 to go!) and adding TFA, my security score rose by 0.2% to 32.8%
3/ When I change a password, the extension says "password cannot be saved"...yet it saves it.
4/ The Security Dashboard is very slow in loading and my score doesn't increase even a fraction of a percent as I change passwords (as suggested by LastPass).
5/ I set it to "trust this computer for 30 days," which may be the reason it stopped asking for TFA. But sometimes it still does ask for TFA.
6/ My Chrome browser is set to allow third party cookies, and I updated to latest Chrome. The logout problem persists.
7/ It logs me out of my desktop faster than out of my laptop. In fact, the laptop may be good for now.
8/ I changed the master password because it had been changed in 270 days. The logout problem persists.
9/ Oddly, it doesn't log me out of this message board (which I logged in to using my master login).
This logout issue creates a huge problem for me, and they couldn't have come at a worst time. Yes, I am a free user, but paid users are having the same problems. If this doesn't get fixed very soon, then I will leave...as I am sure many paid users will.
Please fix a.s.a.p. And emails me if I can be of help.
Thanks!
Hi (again) all,
Bad news and good news:
Bad news: I wrote, incorrectly, a day ago that logging out and resetting site settings fixed the problem. Unfortunately it recurred a few minutes after I wrote my response.
But I did find a fix/workaround:
My issue turns out to have been tied to using a Yubico hardware key (YubiKey) for multifactor authentication. I disabled YubiKey as an MFA option, and nearly 24 hours later, LastPass is now staying logged in for me. I have left the LastPass authenticator live.
I should also mention that I have LastPass on two computers, but this issue was only happening on one. My MacBook (running OSX Sonoma 14.5) with Chrome had the issue; my Windows 11 PC with Chrome never had the issue.
Hope this points some people in the right direction. Even if you're not using a hardware key, I wouldn't be surprised me if some other MFA options are also currently getting caught in this issue.
I may have found the issue.
I was using the "Passwordless" option with Windows Hello. I believe that after the 30 days trusting my laptop ended I needed to login again. When I would login the Windows hello screen would popup and block be from checking the LastPass box option of "Trust this device for 30 days". As a result I would need to login every time. I disabled Windows Hello and and the Multifactor options (temporarily) and I now stay logged into LastPass. If all goes well for the next 30 days I will add in one of the options and see what happens.
Chrome log in not working, not matter what I try. Edge Browser log in on same computer works. This sounds like a Chrome/Lastpass issue ... but one that's stopping me from working. This looking at the Onepass website again.
Here's another update, guys.
My main PC just died (terminal motherboard failure), so I had to reconstruct my environment on a different machine. From the start, LastPass has worked perfectly on this machine. I've now got all my apps and settings configured pretty much identical to my old PC and it's still staying logged in. Happy days! The only problem is that I've no idea what is different on this machine that is causing LastPass to work properly again. Go figure!
If I notice anything that might help the rest of you still suffering, or if it stops working again, I'll let y'all know!
Signing off from this chat for now...
seems to be back up now
