Recovery failed, browser extension not installed error

Im trying to recover/reset my password, but when I use the Recover Account feature, LastPass sends me a Verification code to my phone, and when i enter it and hit recover account, i get an error: Recovery failed, last pass browser extension hasnt been installed. I have the extension in both my Brave and Firefox browsers, i then added LastPass to the Edge browser, and tried recovery with Edge.. get the same error response... Recovery failed, last pass browser extension hasnt been installed. How else can I recover my account since LastPass cant detect that the extension is installed in any browser ?

The message you are seeing is because your browser does not have a Recovery One-time Password stored in it. These recovery OTPs are created when you sign into your account through the browser extension and are stored in the browser. If you clear the browser history/cache they are deleted until you sign in again.

There are other recovery options that you can use if you have set them up already, here is a list of all the recovery options you can enable.

I forgot my master password. I didn't set up any hints or SMS recovery options. I get a recovery link email from Lastpass, but not the one with a one-time password. I checked all different email folders and even tried to search for that email and nothing came up. When I press "get one-time password", I get the following error message:

"Your current browser didn't save account recovery data on this computer. Please try account recovery again in each browser and every computer with which you have used Lastpass. To protect your security and privacy, we never know your actual Lastpass master password. If account recovery fails and you still can't remember your password, you'll have to delete your existing account and create a new one"

Does that mean that I won't be able to get my account back?

Hi@"Petrovita", welcome to the community.

That message means that there was no one-time recovery password stored in the web browser you used. I have reviewed your account and there are no recovery one-time passwords generated for it, so the only way to access the vault is for you to remember you Master Password correctly.

The master password is 12 or more characters long and has at least one upper and lower case letter, number and symbol. It is also case sensitive so you may want to type it out in a text editor to check exactly how it is being entered.

my chrome extension went unresponsive as of recently. Chrome is the only browser I use. I have been trying to log in via the lastpass website but cannot do so. I tried to recover my master password, and change it, but I cannot do so because it's claiming there is no extension installed in my browser. What can I do to recover my password? I do not have SMS recovery.

None of the proposed solutions worked and I use the browser daily, even on the cell phone that the recovery with the use of FaceId does not work either.

Apparently I lost all my passwords and reports history that I have saved, bad a service where the recovery doesn't work... or leaves the user completely at hand.

I don't know what to do... and I don't see how to solve it... I've already asked them to reset and send my email the new password... because the email is mine... but anyway...

Without the solution, I just need to look for another service that can serve me better.

Please be aware that it is not possible for LastPass Customer Care to reset or change a user's Master Password or assist a user with changing/resetting their master password.

If you still cannot recover your Master Password using any of the options above unfortunately, the very last and only option available is toReset Your Accountand start over with collecting data (e.g., sites, secure notes, form fill items, creating identities, etc.). I thought I knew my master password, but needed to use password recovery. Got the code but got an error message that Last Pass is not installed on my browser (Firefox).

This isn't true.

I have the extension installed in Chrome on my desktop. The extension is logged in.

I can (or could) navigate to my vault. But I forgot my master password and can;t log in on other computers.

So I started the recovery process on that computer that was signed in and I STILL get the "The LastPass browser extension hasn't been installed" error.

I get the 6 digit code sent to my phone. After I enter it in the browser it asks if I want to use a one time password for recovery.

I click Yes then I get the Error.

The Brower extension IS installed. It was logged in. I still get the error.

But I was currently logged into LastPass on the browser I was using. So how can it NOT have the One Time Password?

This is academic at this point because I found my PW and am able to log in normally now.

I forgot my master password an im trying to recover it, but i get this error (after answering yes to using OTP):

Please enter a valid username or one-time password.

If you are confident you are entering valid information, contact your LastPass administrator or LastPass support. One-time login may be restricted by your organization.

if i do it from other browsers i get a message about it not having the recovery details, so it should be the right one im using.

Can anyone help me?

I did the each way you the article said.

I loged in the browser with lastpass extensioninstalled and try to recover, I was told theextension does not installed. Then Iloged in the browserwithout last pass extension installed, I was told the samething.

Right now I have my account email and mobile phone can receiveverification message, I just need to know how the recover process can go through.

Most of the password all are remembered by lastpass, please try to HLEP ME RECOVER the account. Thanks a lot!

Hello in December my mac and my cell phone both needed to be restored

my cloud had only done its last backup in July 2020!

Last pass no longer recognizes my extension.

I receive the notification on my cell phone and the code but the extension is not

I don't know if this will get to someone who can help, but I pray it does. I have been using Last Pass for years. I used facial recognition to open it. Until a couple of days ago. I don't know my master password. I tried account recovery on both my iPad and iPhone, but when I do, it tells me the Last Pass extension has not been enabled. Except that it has. I've rebooted, thinking that might reset the extension problem, but it does not. I am about to toss the whole thing aside, but everything I have is in there. Help!!!!

This solution isn't working for me. I have been locked out of my account for over 8 months. This is the second time I have tried to recover my account. Both times I always get the same messages as previously shown. It will send me a recovery text and when I send it, I get as far as, it asks if I want to use a one-time password It doesn't matter which I choose. It still will not let me change my password. I thought I had the authenticator set up to save time. but nothing pops up asking for that code . It's been so long that I don't actually remember what I have set up. This isn't the first time I have been locked out. When they added trust this device (PC) for 30 days is when my troubles started with login issues.All I know is I don't want to start all over I have had last pass since 2007

I have the same issue. I have been using this browser at my work PC for almost a year with the extension installed. Yet when I try to recover my password it tells me the extension is not installed. Same issue on my home PC.
